Aves: a class comprising all of the birds. Any vertebrate, in fact any living organism, that has feathers is a bird. All birds have feathers. Besides the diseases that afflict them as birds, they are also of importance as vectors of disease for other species; known ones include erysipelas, salmonellosis, listeriosis, equine encephalomyelitis.
